Founder and president of Concerned Youth of Asante (CYA) Nana Dr Agyenim Boateng has said that, the alleged tribal comment made by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah in an audio circulating on social media platforms on Northerners was rather unfortunate.
Describing the act as barbaric which needs to be disregarded.
In a statement issued this morning, Gyataba, affectionately called, noted that , we are all one people from different tribes so valuing one tribe ahead of others will not fetch development for the nation.
According to him, the Northerners have been part of the Ashantis for centuries so making such comment at this time was not appropriate.
He said, most of the Ashanti men have Northern women as their wives with children so making unpalatable comment against Northerners is not a sign of maturity on the part of the person who recorded that audio.
Though the National Security is yet to investigate the origination and circulation of the audio purported to be the voice of the Ashanti Regional Minister making disparaging remarks about Northerners.
The minister is said to have allegedly made ethnocentric comment against Northerners in the said audio in reaction to the opposition NDC’s Joshua Akamba engagement with students of the Tempane Senior High School over the Free SHS Programme in the Upper East Region.
The Ashanti regional minister though has denied ever making such malicious and tribal comments but CYA as an Akan group always looking for sanity to prevail in the Asante Kingdom thought it wise to first of all condenm the act and caution the entire nation to desist from making ethnocentric comment since it doesn’t help in Nation Building.
“I know the Ashanti Regional Minister is a matured person and would not do such a thing but anyone responsible must be condemned” . He concluded.
