Concern Youth of Abenase, in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality in Ashanti region have petitioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to help install a new chief for the community after several years of protracted chieftaincy disputes.
Abenase, Edwinase and Asaapong dispute started after the sudden demise of the late Nana Yaw Boakye, who was the occupant of the stool.
According to the Youth the 15 years chieftaincy dispute has negatively affected the progress of the area.
Nana Osei Assuming, member of Asene family and also a unit committee chairman for Abenase electoral area speaking to the media at a press conference on 11 June 2019 said their investigations have revealed that they know the architect behind this long protracted chieftaincy dispute.
He said, after the demise of the late Nana Yaw Boakye, the Queen mother of the area (Abenase) Nana Yaw Nsorwaah II in consultation with her king makers nominated one Ofori Barrack as the occupant of the stool and swore an oath of allegiance to the people of Abenase and the late Paramount chief of Ejisu Nana Aboagye Adjei as the original.
One of the opposing family members invoked Otumfour Ntam Kesie against Ofori Barrack occupant of the stool.
The Chief of Abenase, Nana Yaw Boakye died in 2004 but even when he was on the stool, he was not recognised as the substantive chief, with the community being engulfed with chieftaincy unrest.
The absence of chief in the community according to the youth has paved way for wrong doings such as the illegal sales of land, building at unapproved locations by private developers, premature deaths and immoral practices by a number of youth.
They are also worried that the absence of a chief in the community has led to retarded development and has undermined the progress of the town adding that not even a single land has been earmarked by government for construction.
“We the concern youth are therefore appealing to the king of Ashanti, Otumfo Osei Tutu II, to as a matter of urgency intervene and resolve the chieftaincy dispute to ensure speedy developmental projects for the well-being of the people”, he stated.
“We are humbly appealing to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II to come to our aid to install Nana Ofori Kyermono ( Mr. Barracks Ofori to take over the town” they added.
