President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has commissioned what is the biggest diaper producing factory in Sub Saharan Africa under Government’s ‘One District One Factory’ policy at Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom.
Addressing a ceremony ahead of the commissioning of the factory on the last of his three-day working tour of the Greater Accra Region at the forecourt of the factory, President Akufo Addo said the skeptics who doubted his ability to deliver on his promises and policies are having to see before their own eyes the fulfillment of all his promises.
“The skeptics, the ones who said I came here to lie to the Ghanaian people to deceive them to vote for me, and that I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t do that, the free SHS was a lie, little by little their eyes are having to open and they are going to see at the end of the four years that Akufo Addo spoke the truth to the people of Ghana before coming into office”.
The President further noted that the initiatives that his government has taken are not gimmicks, they are part of a well thought out programme of social and economic development of the country. “They all fit in as to how we can enhance the economy of our country and bring prosperity to Ghana,” the President emphasized.
Support for the Chinese Investors
The President beseeched the people of Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom to collaborate with the Chinese investors who are behind the project and to show them that the Ghanaian people know how to conduct themselves properly and that investors are welcomed into the country. The President expressed his excitement at the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana at the event.
He observed that the existing good relationship between Ghana and China will result in more Chinese investments in the nation.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana
In his address, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, was full of praise for Ghana’s investment climate. He assured that his country will continue to partner with Ghana under all of Government’s industrialization efforts and programmes such as ‘One District One Factory’ and ‘One Village One Dam’. “We will try our best to make more contributions to the development of Ghana. We mean what we say, we will honour our promises,” Ambassador Shi Ting Wang said.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kojo Kyeremanteng, in a brief remark said Government will continue to support all investors who identify with its policy of establishing a factory in each district of the Republic.
The 40 million dollar baby diaper factory, under Government’s ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative is a subsidiary of Sunda International, a business conglomerate and manufacturers of Kleensoft detergent, hardware and baby diapers. The Ghana branch of Sunda International, which was established in 2004, has seen the establishment of other subsidiaries, namely washing powder, hardware and baby diaper factories. In October 2017, the company started the cutting and filling of the land which was an abandoned quarry site to pave way for the construction of the baby diaper factory.
The factory employs approximately 500 people and more than 90 percent of these employees are Ghanaians. The company projects that its staff strength will double in the coming year. The Company is expected to be the leading baby diaper production company on the continent by offering quality products to clients to reduce the importation of baby diapers into the country.
The Everpure Purified Drinking Water Factory
In a related development, President Akufo Addo, also inspected the construction of a purified drinking water factory under the ‘One District One Factory’ initiative of Government at Obom/Domeabra Constituency in the Tomefa Township in the Greater Accra Region.
The Everpure Ghana Limited facility is being constructed by Supremo Construction Company Limited. The project which started on the 1st of May, 2017, is expected to have its first phase, which is the completion of its core structures for production, ready by 15th January, 2019. The second phase which is the completion of external works will be executed by the 15th of April, 2019.
