The Hon. ranking member on Works and Housing committee , Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has sounded a caution to government to do everything possible to supply water to the good people in the country as he promised
in a press briefing with Parliamentary Press, on 21 May, 2020 at Parliament House in Accra, Mr. Bedzrah revealed that, many parts of the Greater Accra has been compounded over the past weeks with a severe water shortage which is really affecting almost every activity that needs a clean water to do , meanwhile the there’s no explanation from authorities in charge of supplying clean water to the good people in the country as promised by His excellency the President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The ranking member explained that the situation has gotten out of hands and keep increasing day in and out at areas such as Adenta, Madina, Teshie, La, Achimota, Ashaiman, Tema, Ablekuma central, Ablekuma North, Ablekuma South, Kasoa and many areas across the country and this shortage of water is seriously affecting us as a country especially with fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Ironically, the current water shortage in Accra and its environs has come at a time that the President had announced to the whole nation as part of mitigating measures against the disease, a three months period of free flow Water to Ghanaians, that is between April, May and June to the people has really been nothing good as compared to the period where the people were paying their bills themselves, he added.
The law maker concluded his submission that, the free water to citizens as announced by the President was not limited to fixed pipes but also includes Mobile Water Tank delivery to homes where there are no water supplies through public main pipes.
