Honorable Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Director of Elections -NDC, says they will be ready to change their decision of voting NO in the coming referendum only if government is willing to deliver a road map to their reasons.
This is in reply to the New Patriotic Party –NPP, calling on the National Democracy Congress to come to a consensus in the 17th December referendum.
Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankra stated that until their many reasons which include avoidance of needless political divisiveness, deepening stakeholder consultation and consensus-building for development among others, has been constructively dealt with, they are voting NO.
According to Mr Ankrah, their decision is for a united Ghana at the local government level and so we want to encourage competent individuals who don’t want to be tagged with partisanship to contest for the elections.
“We have made our reasons clear, if they want us to achieve a common goal for the betterment of Ghana, that’s fine but if they just think we should vote YES because Ghana has advanced in democracy, we wont agree to it”
Honorable Afriyie loud out to the host of fox Morning drive, that the government acted so fast without doing a comprehensive consultations because there are so many questions with respect to politicizing the local level on partisan basis.
He said his biggest headache is the amount of money being spent in elections from campaign till the elections are done. He believe that is one reason why corruption will never end because we need to pay back our sponsors after winning elections.
